According to Health Research Funding, vein problems are one of the most common chronic conditions in the U.S. Women are at a higher risk for developing varicose veins. Approximately half of the U.S. population who are aged 50 years and older have varicose veins.

Unfortunately, you cannot prevent varicose veins from forming altogether; however, you can do things to prevent the varicose veins you already have from getting worse and delay new ones from forming.

  • Keep the blood moving through your veins by performing physical activities that keep your legs moving.
  • Improve the muscle tone in your legs.
  • Whenever possible, keep your legs elevated while you sleep, sit or rest.
  • Change positions – do not sit or stand for a long period of time.
  • Never cross your legs while sitting.
  • Avoid wearing clothes that are tight around your upper thighs, waist and legs.
  • If you are not at your recommended weight, attempt to lose weight. Losing weight decreases the pressure on your veins while improving blood flow.
  • Do not wear high-heeled shoes for an extended length of time.
  • Shoes with a low heel can help you tone your calf muscles. Toned leg muscles can increase the blood flow in your veins.
  • Your vein specialist may advise you to wear compression stockings. These are specially designed stockings that create a gentle, consistent pressure up your entire leg. The continuous pressure keeps your blood from pooling in your legs.

Severe varicose veins may need medical intervention

While lifestyle changes may help those who have minor varicose veins, individuals suffering with a more severe form of the disease may need vein treatment at a vein clinic to find relief.

If you have a severe form of this condition, you may have skin ulcers, blood clots and pain. There are innovative treatments available that can be performed quickly and easily by one of our experienced vein doctors. Arizona vein treatment procedures are usually performed at the vein clinic.

If you have varicose veins that are causing you symptoms like pain, swelling, ulcers, stretched or scaling skin, itching, burning and leg heaviness, you should contact one of our vein specialists today. Your vein doctor can evaluate your condition and help determine which treatment best suits your needs.

Hello! Since I gave birth to my second child some varicose veins and spider veins started to appear on my legs! I got really worried so I went to the doctor and he recommended me venorid treatment. The results are amazing! Besides that, I’m also exercising at least three days a week.

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment
is added I get three e-mails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
    Thanks!
